Chennai metro rail route:-
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Project, which was liability for the design and implementation of the Delhi Metro Rail Project, has worked on the detailed project report of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. The project report suggested the construction of two initial corridors in phase 1 of the project. These two corridors are the airport for St. Thomas Mount and the Washmirmapet of Chennai Central.
The detailed routes of the two corridors from Washermenpet to Airport and Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount are given below:
Corridor 1 from Washermenpet to Airport (23.1 kms)
Washermenpet – Broadway or Prakasam Road – Chennai Central Station – Rippon Building – along Cooum River – Government Estate – Tarapore Towers – Spencers – Gemini – Anna Salai – Saidapet – Guindy – Chennai Airport
Corridor 2 from Chennai Central to St.Thomas Mount (22.0 kms.)
Chennai Central -along EVR Periyar Salai – Vepery – Kilpauk Medical College – Aminjikarai – Shenoy Nagar – Annanagar East – Anna Nagar 2nd Avenue – Tirumangalam – Koyambedu – CMBT -Inner Ring Road – Vadapalani – Ashok Nagar – SIDCO – Alandur – St. Thomas Mount
Details about the Chennai Metro Rail:
- Total 41 stations: 19 underground stations and 12 elevated stations
- Some portions of both the corridors were planned to be underground while the rest of the portion will be elevated.
Corridor 1: From Washermanpet to Saidapet (14.3 kms)
